That's It...I'm Running for Public Office...
Well the cats out of the bag now so I’m going to ask all of you here for your help. You all know how much I love our beautiful state and how much our outdoors means to me. This year due to term limits our state will turn over 31% of the House of Representatives. Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing however better than half of those seats being turned over are now held by pro hunting, fishing, outdoor recreation representatives. That could be a dangerous situation for the outdoor community. We’ve all seen how important even one vote can be to our way of life. That’s where I need your help.
I’ve thought long and hard about this and last week I filed to run for the House of Representatives 81st district seat. Believe me when I say I know this will be a long tough fight for me if I am to be elected, as I have no political background. The up side is that I’ll face two opponents in the August primary who don’t have a lot of political experience either. One is a one-term County Commissioner and the other is a bank consultant who like myself has never held public office. If I make it through the primary election I will be facing a Democratic opponent who also has no political background.
Obviously there are many issues other than the protection of our natural resources that concern me and many changes in our state that I would like to see but outdoor recreation of all kinds will naturally be high on my list. With the beauty of our state in mind, on Monday I will begin my “No Signs” campaign and will do my best to prove to the voters in my area that I will be the best man for the job of protecting the rights of the people of Michigan and all the things that make this such a great state.
My “No Signs” campaign is just what it says. You will not see any signs with my name on it in yards or on every vacant street corner. If you do it will be without my approval. I plan to run my campaign by simply getting the word out through personal contact and fliers put up in strategic places. Heck it worked for Davy Crockett so why not me. 8-) To me the thousands of political signs you see each election year are offensive, wasteful and a distraction to drivers. I realize this may make it harder for me to be elected but that’s a chance I’m willing to take.
If you would like to help me in this election here’s what I need you to do. I need the political endorsement of organizations that would be willing to back me in this election. I realize that not all organizations can do so but many can. The more endorsements I can publicize the better my hopes of getting the word out. If an organization has questions about where I stand on other issues please have them contact me. I’d be more than happy to discuss any issue with them.
I’m not looking for political donations for my campaign, however I won’t turn them down. I plan to run my campaign as cost effectively as possible and don’t look to spend a lot of money on it. After all if I can’t get elected on a tight budget how can I expect people to believe I can help run our state the same way?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and if you think you or an organization you belong to can help me work towards making our state even better than it is now please don’t hesitate to call me at 810-387-0454. Thanks.

Good luck Steve.
Just one word of advice...I think the "no yard signs" campaign is a good idea...You might want to spend some money on print/tv advertising though. A good tv ad goes a long way.

So many people are jealous and selfish when it comes to utilizing Michigan's natural resources and that is what has destroyed the hunting heritage.

Mutt,
You're outside my district as well.
But you can bet I'll tell all my friends and family IN your district you're running.
Best of Luck,

Heya Mutt....I wish you the best on your endeavor.
Just seeing your dedication to kids (benefit4kids) makes me believe you operate with a good heart and a good spirit.
As a voter, I would also like to let you know I have no problems with election signs,
It lets me know who the people in my neighborhood support when a sign is in their yard.
It aids name recognition when at the voting booths.
It shouts a name for me to look up when researching candidates.
It reminds me that our democracy is operating as intended, in vivid color.
Election signs (unlike monofiliament at tippy) usually get cleaned up right after the election.
Candidate advertising is one advertising I like!
Dont take this as I wouldnt vote for you because you didnt put signs up, I would vote for you because we share the same passions in life.
Maybe like you, I think signs would also help you get elected
Good luck! (truly)
Anything I can do to help, please let me know....perhaps an address to send campaign donations??

Thanks for the well wishes and support guys.
Buddy,
I will be running some print ads as things move along. I haven't looked into TV ads yet but I won't rule them out as long as i don't have to wear make-up to be in them. 8-)
Huntnut,
I understand what you are saying about the signs but there's a method to my madness on that issue. Besides I've always hated the darn things so I plan to put them to use for me in a different way.
If anyone would like to make a campaign contribution they can make a check out and send it to:
Committee to Elect Steve Pray
8330 Jorden Rd.
Yale, MI. 48097
Any help at all in this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again everyone.

Good Luck in your run for the House.
Michigan Sportsman need their voices heard in Lansing.
Another thing to remember is that we also put our trust in a man that was rendered unconscience by a pretzel . Who knew Jeb would turn out to be the smart one.
