I read, see on tv, on online hunting shows, and here on MS of guys monitering their properties with cameras, making hit lists, etc.

Now with the cameras I see how they can help a hunter. I also see ways they could hurt a hunter. Checking the cameras involves human intrusion.

When it comes to hit lists, most of these are made during the summer when bucks are in velvet and in their summer feeding patterns. To me most of these bucks won't even be on properties that they are being seen on during the summer months.

So how do these cameras and hit lists actually get used for the upcoming hunting season. I personally rarely use my cameras, nor do I make hit lists.
I have the last few weeks been seeing some bucks and have been able to pattern them as of right now. Of course where I have been seeing them is on a section of the property that I don't hunt (others do) but I know that they won't be there come October 1 due to the beans will either be gone or not very attractive to the deer. These kind of scenarios along with the bacholar groups breaking up and the bucks spreading out to their fall home ranges/core areas always have me thinking on how the hunters trail cam pics and hit lists come into play.

So for all you heavy hitter buck hunters who have been utalizing trail cams and hit lists into your hunting regimen can you help me learn how to put these tactics to work for myself?

Super rough Saturday, casted a channel for several hours with about a couple of dozen other fools. Saw nothing taken.

Fished Sunday am with my daughter, deadbait got her a coho. Came up with a nearly a dozen live ales 3-5 inchers. Caught a pink (first LM one in several years for me), then missed several strikes; and had the current tangle a couple of other baits:rant:. Cadillac Dave caught a king without having a hook in it. I've seen a fair number of coho that spit a spoon and get lassoed spinning in the line, and a couple of others that have managed to tongue wrap themselves on bait lines, but this was the first time I recall seeing a king that wrapped the sinker line (while bobber fishing) on its gill plate and a couple times around the jaw, and be unable to free itself during the fight.

Sunday PM fished another pier. Many perch sized ales (but no perch being caught), and many gizzard shad available in a measured water temp of 54. Went two for three on Kings with the gizzards. Saw one other taken on a spoon. The two landed were on bottom, the one lost was under a bobber that I had rigged high an light (thinking coho), tangled with a guy's perch rig next to me, and I'm sure his spincaster was nearly spooled when it came to an abrupt end. Oh well.

Saw the strong winds this morning and just bagged it.

Wind direction issues and hydrodynamics aside the lake clearly cooled.

Really concerned about how few ales seemed to be around. Water temp was excellent.

Didn't know what forum to put this on, but wanted some advice on ridding an area of feral house cats. I only put it on the hunting forum because I know a lot of guys go on here & I'm looking for advice. A friend has a feral cat problem. Two to three barn cats have become about 25 cats, including kittens. This happened over the summer & it didn't help that her daughter has been feeding them all summer. Now she created a problem that has to be alleviated. They're on her deck, on her picnic table & you can see they have fleas and who knows what other diseases they can bring now. She enjoys her song birds & they have been hit kind of hard. I don't know if stopping the feeding is going to work, now and I don't know if live traps will work. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,

So close to my kids first chance to shoot a goose this morning, had all four kids out in the field with me, the eldest two are ten and eleven, and we had a big group coming right to us. They did the sideways slip thing at about 100 yards and were coming on a string, and at about 70 yards all thirty flared and went around. Came back by at about 70 yards or so and left.:rant: They obviously saw something they did not like. We were in standing corn where most of the field is chopped. So frustrating, but at least we saw birds. Had some sandhill cranes talking to us most of the morning.
